It
took some doing (and a good bit of providence), but the legal
registration of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia and the
Haitian Orthodox Mission was finally accomplished (in our hands, not
those of ROCOR/MP) during my latest visit to Hait, despite strenuous
efforts by the MP's representatives in Haiti to seize the legal status
(and continuinty) for themselves. All registration documents (and
titles to land in Port-au-Prince and Jacmel) remain in our hands — a
crucial issue under Haitian law Barring court action to the
contrary (very expensive and unlikely), we are thus secure in our legal
position in Haiti, and in legal title to Church properties (including
the Church of the Nativity, though at present we do not have any
intention of attempting to pursue that claim). Thanks be to God!
